Hi, I have a 1998 Cobia 174 center console and i'm thinking hard about separating the deck from the hull to do a restoration and to make some changes. I have searched high and low on the internet but i can't find any info or pictures on separating a boat like mine. I have studied it hard and it looks pretty straight forward and i realize that there is probably a good bit of 5200 sealing the two halves together. But for piece of mind sake, I would like to know that someone has actually accomplished what i'm trying to do. Is it possible or near impossible?? I would really like to be able to remove the tank to thoroughly clean it and I want to put all new foam in it since im not sure if it has much in it. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks Tim

Since many boats have the same construction techniques, it is not totally necessary to find pictures/articles on separating a Cobia . . Probably any CC from similar vintage will do as a guide.

You will want to check to see what is holding the deck and hull together . . . probably bolts and adhesive along the rail. then look to see want components, wiring, hoses, etc are connected between both halves of the boat.

If there is adhesive, the challenge will be to cut the joint and leave it in good enough shape for re-joining.

Here is an image from a thread that I found fo a similar subject:
