serial no. location

I just bought a 1959 fiberglass runabout with a merc 400 45 hp engine in it. I cannot locate anything that looks like a serial no. on it. I want to get a manual for it. I found B0167240 scratched into the outside of the motor housing and onto the boats transom. I looked for a plate just under the clamps toopen the housing. I am new to boats but am an old hotrodder

Thanks that is it. Now I can get the manual and start getting it ready for spring. I know it turns over freely and has spark But I want to go through it before I try starting her. <br />I was going to get a new motor but I just can't bear to do that to an old sailor.
