serial number and carb parts

From what I have read, I need to know my motor's serial number (in addition to the model number) to order parts. I have a serial number on the bill of sale, trouble is, I cannot verify that on the motor. Where is the serial number located on the motor (1991 Black Max 135hp)?

I have found two paper labels but none of those numbers match what was on the BOS...

I need to purchase needles, seats and gaskets for the carbs. Is there a particular rebuild kit that has these items? Or do I need say a basic $10 kit with gaskets and needles but the seats are separate type of arrangement.

Is there a rule of thumb on rebuilding these carbs? The needles were jammed into the seats. I took everything apart, cleaned it up and put it back together. Two weeks later, they're starting to stick again. Last thing I need is one cylinder starved. So I'll replace the parts. But the question is, is this something I should expect to do every year? Two? I realize alot depends on the quality of the oil used, frequency of use etc. How often are you having to rebuild your carbs?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: serial number and carb parts

look on the side of the block, its usually engraved into the block, or its on a plate where the motor attaches to the transom

as for rebuilding the carbs, you shouldnt have to do it at all if they are kept clean and do regular decarbs
