a few questions please

A few questions please

1 there is a bocked off small vent like pipe coming from the leg, any idea what it is and if it should be blocked? the plug in it seems profesional.

2 when i squese the fuel primer fuel comes out a hole in the bottom carb.body, is this normal. as the engine runs fine i dont really want to mess with float height i guess it could be but i dont know.

3 on the control there seems to be 2 options for the idle leaver, one has a hole that is a curve one a L shape. it is currently in the L shape and works but i wondered if the other progressivly puts more throttle on as currently it goes past a kind of pressure then runs faster (because of l shape hole i think)
4 tickover is high ish. not silly fast but a tiny bit i can push the laver to slow it but have run out of adjustment, ive read that the timming alters it but im scared to mess with it incase bad starting and weird stuff happens. any suggestion? leave it alone?

The blocked off pipe is the feed for a speedometer.----Leave it alone if there is no speedometer in the boat.-----If no fuel leaks out while running then leave it alone.----Throttle cable may need to be adjusted AT THE MOTOR to slow down the idle.

ahh, speedo! excellent i would never have guessed

and im excellent at leaving stuff alone so fuel will stay as it is.

i did adjust the cable right out but it just doesnt quite go low enough. if i adjust anymore the control box will explode lol.

hi i have a Mercury 50 thunderbolt with serial 9474149

I did try to find what year and model it is but i cant see anything that lines up.
From the stickers on it i guessed at 1984 but any info on it would be great as i know nothing about it.

(i did ask in the wrong section so i removed it and asking here)

Because we don't have to tell you when you post in wrong sections and we move or delete posts after you edit so they no longer make any sense.

Are you sure the serial number is correct?

Being that your engine serial number starts with a 9 (Europe) typically only allows for the year to be found using a serial number chart system and doesn't come up in a serial number auto search program Mercury dealers tend to use.... Your serial number range shows your 50 HP engine to be a 1987 indicated in the chart below.

Be aware that the starting Mercury serial "number" differ between some countries such as
USA may start with 3,4,5,6 O, A, B, C, etc. etc.
Canada starts with a 7,
Europe/Belgium = 9,
Australia = 8.

Meant to add parts links last night that coincide with your serial number range...Just need to know if you have a 3 or 4 cylinder engine ?...
50 (3 CYL.) - 9469200 THRU 9683054
50 (4 CYL.) - 9248006 & Up

wow the master has noticed me! and did not dissapoint. i will go and have a look tomorrow in the daylight to see how many plugs there are, i think i know but dont want to get it wrong.
