I've inherited a Mariner 90 HP, with little documentation. I'm struggling to make out the serial number on the tag. Is there a format? Should I be looking for alpha-numeric, or just numeric sequence? Or there other locations where the serial number is located besided the label on the transom bracket? Which might be esiaer to read.

Alpha numeric. Also check the freeze plugs. I had a 90 triple and don't remember if they had it stamped there too (don't remember if they even had them....casting vents with concave aluminum round disc covers) or not, but some of my engines over the years did.

The last 4 characters are probably ELPT meaning electric start, long shaft (20") Power Trim and Tilt.

Thanks All,
I was able to find the serial number on some old documentation that I happened to find. I will however also look further on the engine itself for confirmation.
