Serial Number not found /. How to test rectifier

I just bought a pontoon with a 2008 50 horse Mercury but the tach isn't working. I have read several posts about a bad rectifier being the problem. Whenever I put in the serial number 1B712561 it comes up not found. I can't check for the part to see what it looks like or to make sure I'm getting the right one. I double checked it on the motor so I know it's right. Also how do you check the rectifier to see if it is bad. Thanks

Your serial number comes up as;




The rectifier looks like #1 in the parts drawing;




The latest part number of the rectifier is;



Your manual will have testing procedures for the rectifier and stator.

Thanks for the reply. Where exactly is it on the motor?

When I go to the Mercury parts site and put in my serial number and electrical I don't see any rectifier at all. I can't find the diagram you sent me. What am I missing?
