Local Merc dealers are having trouble with this serial number, it's a 1985 Merc 4 cyl 2 stroke 50hp
s/n 7007633 I tried Merc's site and it doesn't come up either, and it's definitely the serial number, both on the plate and on the powerhead. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Re: serial number

Starting with a 7 will confuse lots of Americans because that's a Canadian serial number but your dealer in Ottawa should have no trouble....

Here's a site that lists serial numbers, including yours, but this list says your machine is a '73. Maybe that's the trouble your dealer is having?

www.maxrules.com

Re: serial number

That would explain it! I bought this from a co-worker and he said it was an '85, asked about it now and he said well the boats an 85 so I guess the motor has to be too! the ignition system appears to be thunderbolt energizer II, and type A carburetor.

Thanks!
