Serial number?

i have a 1973 7,5 h.p. mercury with the serial number 3731665 but when i look up parts for them sometime they come up with different years. For example i went to get the fuel connector it said the larger 1/4 turn but it turned out i needed the smaller one. i dont get it

It might not be you. It might be the site and the way they have the parts indexed or cross referenced.
