Serial Number?

Just bought a Bass Buggy with a 50 HP Mercury motor. The whole works is supposed to be a 1991. I'm having a hard time reading the first number on the tag for the serial number. Is there another place to find the serial number on this 4 cylinder motor? When I try the search on this forum it gives me anything and everything.

There should be a welch plug on the motor that is silver and about the size of a .25 cents pice with the serial# stamped in it. Look real close as it might be covered up some by wiring or other parts on the motor. The number might need a 0 or 1 added as a first number tofind just what year the motor is . newer motors will have a letter at the start of the number. Find the welch plug and post that number here and we'll help all we can.

You should find it on the lower starboard side of the engine block.

I could see the tag now with the motor propped up. The tag says A159567 but I still can't find out anything about it? Any help is appreciated.

The boat was built in late 1990 so I figured that the motor might have been an earlier model. Thanks

Could you tell me one more thing about this motor? Is it a Bigfoot or not? I see them listed as Bigfoot or as regular. It has 4 cylinders and is a 2 stroke. Thanks!
