serial numbers

i have a pair of 1979 115 hp inline 1150el mercurys.im not sure where to find the serial numbers i know ive seen it on these forums somewhere.does a starting serial number of 516 sound right or no.any help on this would be greatly apprciated

Look on the center of the transom bracket for the serial number. My '77 Merc inline six 1500 has a serial num starting with 47. You an look up the year at Maxrules.com
