This nasty virus ran over my McAfee like it wasn't even there!!!!! I got the intrusion warning and by the time I had read it there were 4 new icons touting protection from malware and spyware running installers and payment options.I pulled the internet connection right away but the damage was done. The icons are Spyware and Malware Protection--Privacy Protection--Error Cleaner. All have the same web address--http://www.viruswebprotect2008.com/shandler.php?...

The virus name comes up IRP_MJ_CREATE Trojan with a McAfee scan.

If anyone could explain in detail the steps I can take to remove this CARP without going on line I would be EXTREMELY grateful.

I did try to run system restore but the only one on there was where this stuff came in. I run updates twice a week so there should have been several restore points on there.

This is driving me nutso!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!

Google COMBOFIX I have used this on some very strange virus programs and it has worked. Look it up and combine your search with your trojan name ........ this might help.

You will need to download hijack this!, run a scan, and post it to the help forum. Someone will read it then give you instructions..

Bart, I would suggest installing Hijack This!. It's a tool that shows information about what's automatically starting up on your computer. You can paste the log here so we can have a look at what may be ailing your computer.

I'd also try the Trend Micro online scanner.

You may also consider getting a new Antiviris. There's some popular free ones out there. Avast and AVG come to mind. I haven't tried AVAST yet (they want your email address to get it) but I think more guys here use it than AVG now. I use AVG free version at home and commercial version at work on all my workstations and servers.

Just remember, antiviris programs don't generally handle spyware/adware. There are different products for that. Since I added the content filtering firewall to my network 3 years ago we don't have spyware problems anymore and thus I am not quite as up on all the latest removel tools as I used to be. I used to use Ad-Aware, Spybot, ansd Windows Defender. Sometimes, downloading a specific tool to repair a specific infection was necessary.

I got some kind of adware virus on my computer about 2 months ago. My Norton 360 just ignored it. I was about to re-format and reload the hard drive when I decided to try Malwarebyte a friend that works in computer services told me about. Figured I had nothing to lose. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Cleaned the virus right off. It's a free download, I waited a week after it cleaned mine to see what happened then sent them their $24.95.

Re: Serious Computer Problem--Virus Help!!!!

i have exactly the same virus!!!! 4 days ago boyfriends dad reformatted whole pc as something ate up all memory.
got pc back 4 days ago everything was running great, until boyfriend went on it this morn after work, obviously lookin at rude things as usual hahahah.
when i got up i seen all these new icons on desktop privacy protector, error cleaner & spy malware protector.
the pc wont now allow me to do any security updates my c drive has disappeared as has dvd rom,i just managed to break my netgear wireless connector as caught it when i was walking past n it snapped the usb connector off the end arrrrghhhh so nicked the kids one(identical) but it wont pick it up!!! and i cant load the disc on because it not picking up the drive,so now i cant even get on the net to run housecall or such like also when i click on the start button, everything has disappeared the search and run option have gone as have the all programmes tab and network connections, also i tried ctrl alt n delete as all open windows are getting stuck, but it tells me it has been disabled by the administrator! was gonna try hooking up directly via ethernet but cant get into the connections to see if its working or not as it dont seem to have picked the cable up altho the light is flashing on it.
before the format was running norton 360 but was told it slows down the pc so we put avg 8.0 (free)on and this virus seemed to bypass it without even picking up on anything.
when you look at the computer name now it has been altered to virus alert and this text has also appeared in the tray next to the clock.
apart from choppin off boyfriends hands so he cant use pc anymore hahaha is there anything else i can do being as i now cant access the net????
its soooo annoying lol
he can keep his sticky mitts off my laptop thats 4 sure lol

Get into your control panel.....either regular way if you can or F8 safe mode and go to Admin tools >..services.scrool to messenger and disable it....with this disabled the pop up will stop...In future keep it disabled stop them before they get in ...MS big hole

Re: Serious Computer Problem--Virus Help!!!!

i think i have finally rid my pc of this virus web protect c**p,it was sending me crazy,no such because it had made my c drive and d drive vanish,so no matter what spyware programmes i ran they never found anything, due to the fact when it asked which drives i wanted to scan c drive wasnt there for me to choose.

firstly i did as someone mentioned on here ran malwarebytes, that got rid of the icons from the desktop
the i restarted in safe mode and ran a few other scans malwarebyte again and trojan hunter(30 day free trial) but that never found anything.
i finally used this programme as i had read it in another forum, link below

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/smitfraudfix.php

followed the instructions for using it by running it once in normal mode, pressing 1 to scan and then once it has finished it creates a log, then restarted my pc in safe mode, ran programme again using option 2 (clean up) and pressing yes when prompted,
finally when i restarted my pc the name virus alert had disappeared from the system tray next to the clock and have not had any problems since, altho now running trojan hunter it picks up the smitfraud fix.exe as a trojan virus, but it did say on the download site that any file ending in exe will be considered a threat,so im not quite sure, but so far so good, and when i click the start tab my programmes are back there and also my hard drive and dvd rom drives are now showing up again where they should be.

just thought id post this in case anyone else wanted to try see if it works for them.

Re: Serious Computer Problem--Virus Help!!!!

Thanks loads for the great help/responses. Right after posting this thread the computer went into restart as a loop-I E restart to a point and restart again over and over and over again. I located a place near here that does cleaning and de-bugging and took it there. I just got it back today and have a clean computer-physically and programwise. They also installed more/better Adware/Spyware blockers/removers.

I feel human again!!!!
