Is a 1-2-both battery switch "serviceable" ? I mean, can I open it an clean/adjust the contacts ?

I have the impression that the switch failed sometime ago, but I'm not sure, maybe it didn't "click" into position... I rotated it again and it worked... anyways, I would like to inspect it and clean it.

No, they are sealed. They do not have contacts in any conventional sense. What they have inside of them are a set of large and thick coper plates that slide over one another, so they are what you might call self cleaning. There really isn't much of anything to go wrong with them as long as the case doesn't crack (that and a hammer is how I found out what is inside of them).

Thom

ok...I will de-attach it from the place it is screwed to, in order to inspect the plastic body (front and back) for craks....It seemed to me that I saw a broken piece, but that maybe only on the flange (plastic border).

did you find any corrosion or dirt on the sides of the plates that serve as contact surface?

thanks
