Hi all,
I've just sold my old boat and purchased a quinny with a 2000 Yamaha 50hp four stroke on her. It's only done a genuine 80 hours and I'm sick of paying mega dollars to marine dealers for basic servicing. My question is:
Is there somewhere you can get comprehensive details on what/when/how to change oils, filters etc? The manual shows me the basic configurations but it would be nice to get a "walkthrough" so I know it's done properly. Thanks for any help!

a good manual will tell you all this stuff, you may only have the owners manual, what you need is a REPAIR manual.

Re: Servicing 2000 50hp Yammy 4 stroke

I am looking for a service manual for my 2001 50hp four stroke. I see some available for download at selffixer.com for a few bucks but don't know if I can trust the site. I've never heard of them. Is there a reputable site where I can download the service manual?

It seems like Yamaha would offer these, especially for boats that are a little older.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey mate, I'm guessing you're in Oz, try ringing Yamaha Motor Australia (YMA) on 02 9757 0011 and ask them if they can send you a manual on DVD. I had a F60BETL and the DVD service manual covered the 50 as well, however I gave it to the new owner so can't help. The guy who helped me at YMA at the time was the Marine Service Manager. PM me and I'll give you his name.

Hi all, thanks for your assistance. I have found a repair manual covering 1995-2004 Mercs, Mariners and Yammy's.
Dave, i tried to upload it for you but too big (120mb). PM me, see if I can get it to you some way.

Forgot to mention, have serviced the Yammy, oil, filters etc and replaced impeller.....thanks to the manual.
Total cost:
Impeller $42
Fuel filter $22
Oil filter $8
Engine oil $6
Gearbox oil $7
Grease I had that in the shed.
So, a total of $85!! The last service done by the Marine dealer cost me $360...without the impeller. Bloody rogues, grrr!!
TII, yep, in Oz, Adelaide. Blowing a gale and rain at the minute, can't get out.
Cheers

Cool Iffoar! Glad to see you're sorted. It's blowing a gale here in Brisvegas as well...

Good point, thanks Ldavidgrover. Iffoar, there are four zincs in the water jacket on the LHS of the engine when looking from behind. They're adjacent to the spark plugs and are very simple to take out, just a 10mm spanner and pull them out being careful not to damage the o-rings. My F60 internal zincs only needed a clean up with a strip of carbon paper twice a year in the five years and almost 600 hours I put on her in full salt. From memory, there's little or no reference to them in the Yamaha service manual, or if there is, it's buried in an unlikely place!

Thanks David/Triton, hadn't even heard of those! Will zip out when this bloody rain stops and check 'em.
