hello every one , i have a 50 merc 3 cylinder, 1987 ob226365. i have just got the engine and i am going to try and service it ,i have brought spark plugs, lower gear oil, impeller, can of carb cleaner spray and a solec book.
is there any thing else i could do to give it a service myself ? it starts ok the oil is now mixed with the petrol but old owner said it was a bit lumpy when he last used it . any help would be helpful thanks:)

Howdy, Mark.

You are on the right track. I think you could improve it just a bit by:

* Replace the Seloc Manual with an OEM Service Manual. More detail, more specific.

* Use Seafoam instead of carb cleaner. The carb cleaner doesn't do much good unless you are overhauling the carbs, and for that you need gasket sets. Seafoam will decarb the engine, which is a good idea on an engine with mystery history.

Well, that I don't know, Mark.

I am sure your marine dealer or store can sell you a good decarbonizer that will work as well as Seafoam.
