Set up/prop ? for dhadley,et al

Sorry to be a pest but I'm still playing with my 2000 150 Johnson on 17' Stratos. My last post was for a 23 pitch aluminum prop and I was getting only 5200 rpm and about 50mph on spedo. everyone recommended a 21 pitch. I changed to the 17 pitch I have as a spare just to see. With a full load of equipment, gas and two people (310 lb) I got only 5600 rpm and 40mph on gps at optimum trim. I couldn't believe these numbers. It should have been much higher. The motor is strong and compression right on. The boat has a two small step up hull and I'm in the second hole down with two more to go, but the anticav plate is already about 5" above the keel but 2" below the top stepdown. Should I raise the motor? What RPM should I try for?

Actually if you run the numbers they both come out at almost the same slip %. I would have thought the 17 would have rev'ed more also. Perhaps the boat wasnt up on the pad like it should be.

D,<br />the only marking on the 23 is a stamped M inside a stamped box. I previously ported it 3/16" and that didn't do anything. What exactly does "on the pad" mean? It was trimmed to the sweet spot. What should the slip be and how do I attain it?

That sounds like an OMC prop which would make sense. I'm still at a loss as to why the 17 didnt turn more rpms. At this point I'd suggest we try to borrow a 19 or 21 ss prop and just try it. At least we'll have some more info to go by.

Should I try raising the engine and trying the 23 again? <br />Stratos told me they set this boat up with a 24 pitch. And please explain "on the pad". Thanks
