2000 50hp johnson 2 stroke

Does anybody know the way to set the idleing screws on the carburators so that you get them equal?

I followed the book and it said to tighten until they set, set on the spring or stop turning? Then back up 3.5 turns.

The engine runs smootly but I cant get the idleing speed to get any lower, its stuck on about 1200 in the water and 2000 on the muffs

Thanks

Re: setting carburators

May have a throttle cable out of adjustment. Is the throttle cam hard against the carb linkage roller when the engine controls are in neutral?

So then can assume that the throttle plates of the carbs are completely closed in neutral? Is the center of the roller aligned with the scribe line of the throttle cam and just barely touching when in neutral or gapped 1 mm?Only other thing that comes to mind is whether the idle timing screw has been moved or you have an air leak.Is this something that recently changed?

You need to get a service manual (buy one or check your library). You need to disconnect the throttle cable, do a link & sync, adjust the throttle cable and reconnect it, then adjust the idle mixture and idle speed "in the water". This is all spelled out in the manual and its far too detailed to go into here.
