Any one have any tips on how to check throttle linkages and settings on a 1975 Johnson 25 Hp?

The Clymer manual is pretty vague on what to do, and i think there might be a problem with it. The unit has tiller steering and wheel steering (hope i'm describing it right). it seems that they are fighting each other. When I throttle up from the steering area, it feels like there is some binding about halfway between idle and WOT; If I try to make any throttle changes from the tiller, the throttle there binds. Something seems stuck, but the manual does not help. I have the OMC manual on order from Joe Reeves, but it will be a week or two before it gets here, and i am dying to get back on the water.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

 Larry

Larry.... I only advised you where you might obtain a manual. It is not coming from me personally.

It sounds like you're saying that you have a remote control (throttle/shifting) setup and that is binding somewhere. I say this as the steering would have nothing to do with the throttle control.

I can only suggest that you disconnect the shift/throttle cables from the engine if they exist, then locate the binding area.

Joe, thanks for the clarification, I saw an email from the person I'm getting the manual from after sending the post. I will try taking the cables off tonight and seeing if I can figure this one out. I can say one thing for sure, it is very frustrating to be told by local shops that they won't touch the engine for service; I understand the position they are in, I have worked in service for better than 10 years and deal with old stuff as well, but good business sense tells me that you should still try to direct a customer to some type of resource. These shops won't even do that. I've heard that these older sea horse motors are real workhorses, and there are lots of them out there which is why I took the chance of buying an older one. Heres' hoping I didn't make a mistake.
