Shaft bearing spool

Force 150 1993<br />The seals were leaking on the lower unit so we decided they needed to be changed. When we got to the shaft bearing spool, it seemed to be stuck. All of the manuals said it would just come out but it didn't. As per the service manual we tried a puller and ended up breaking off half of the top outer ring. Why did it do this and does anybody have any ideas on how to get the remaining part of the spool out of there

Are you talking about the bearing cage that is attached to the prop shaft. If bearing is stuck to the prop chances are anti sieze compound was not used. If the bearing is still stuck to the prop shaft you should be able to remove it with a bearing puller.
