My 1975 evinrude 9.9 # 10524c needs a water pump overhaul. Bought the kit. Three different water tube grommets included. One is for the 15" shat model & one is for the 20" model. My gearcase is already removed, but I measure approximately 17" from transom bracket to cavitation plate. Is it a 15" or a 17"?
Thanks in advance:)

Re: Shaft Length

Yours is more than likely a short shaft. There are not alot of long shaft 9.9 out there. thge gromments are different but you should be able to match the one of the lower unit to the new one. Measure the drive shaft and that will tell you which one you have.

Re: Shaft Length

If yours measures 17" from the upper inside of the transom bracket down to the anti-cavitation plate, you have a short shaft (15") motor. They are called 15" or 20" because that is the actual standard size of the transom of the boat they mount on. The short shafts (15") will actually usually measure 17-18" and the long shaft (20") will usually measure 22-23" from transom bracket to anti-cavitation plate.
