Doing some shopping for a used O/B in the 150 HP range (not having a lot of luck) and most ads give a "shaft length". Now I understand this is important and referes to how low the prop sits in the water but here is my quesiton, what exactlly is beign measured? From what to what? I'd like to measure the existing engine so I can find something that matches what is already there.

Second question, do the manufactures all use the same measurement? I've got a Mercury on it now, does Rude measure everything the same way? Assume my current engine is a 25" shaft, is a Rude the same beast as far as length if its advertised as a 25"? (I do not want to have to drastically change the mounting.)

Re: Shaft length ???

Bubba, I believe it refers to the length of the midsection...from the bottom of the powerhead to the cavitation plate...and I think you're correct that at 25" is the same no matter what brand.
