How do I know the length of the shaft on my motor. I have a 1969 Merc 500 50 hp motor.

You will have to measure from the transom bracket(where it hooks over the boat) down to the anticavitation plate.<br /><br />Around 15 inches is short shaft <br />Around 20 inches is a long shaft<br />Around 25 inches is an extra long shaft.<br /><br />TMD
