Ok so i have been working on getting a 7.5 gamefisher motor running. so far everything works. But the final problem is that the shaft won;t turn. I've taken the power head off, and noticed that there is a spring that is attached to the shaft. It seems that somehow the motor turns and torques the spring and allows the shaft to turn. But mine won;t. can anyone help with this?

Re: Shaft won;t turn

A model number will help.As far as I can tell there is no drive spring(?)
There is a clutch model neutral/forward.Parhaps the clutch is bad.
Usually they seize eliminating any clutch affect.some people have simply
put a bolt through the clutch eliminating a problem area.

Re: Shaft won;t turn

LOL Yea i kinda forgot the model number. 217/58589-0. I dont think it is a clutch. But i could be wrong. Let me try to explain maybe a little bit better. I have the Neutral and drive switch on the side. That appears fine (when it is put in Neutral) it looks like it has a catch that stops the shaft. Now I can get the engine to manually turn the shaft if I put the motor at a slight angle. So i'm not sure what the deal is. it looks likt the only thing that would connect the shaft with the bottom of the motor is that spring.but I'm dumbfounded.

Re: Shaft won;t turn

Unfortunately I don't have any info spicifically regarding the clutch motors.
I would guess your clutch or shift linkage is bad.It appears the clutch is in the gearcase.Similar to a typical full shift motor I wonder if the componrnts are damaged or assembled wrong and when you tip the motor the clutch ingages by gravity. As far as the spring some brands of motors have a driveshaft spring that cushions the drive as it ingages. and these springs do wear out or break.
And can cause binding or no drive. In my after market manual there is no indication of the presences of a spring on the Eska built motors though other folks have mentioned a spring.Sorry I can't be more help.

The spindal on the motor turns and changes speed. I just cant figure out why the shaft won't turn. I know it has something to do with that spring. I'll try to take a picture and post it. But if I get it I'll let ya know. Thanks for the help so far steelespike.
