Hi all! Over the last few years and the last few boats, I've tried to come up with an easy and inexpensive way to keep my boat covers from pooling in spots when it rains. I started out two boats ago with3/4 PVC and after a few tries, I've found that 1 1/4 seems to work really well. Its light, inexpensive and easy for a novice to work with. I usually start by taking a piece of paper and drawing out what I need. That way I can figure in the correct fittings and how many of each I'll need. I tried not gluing everything, but for support. I've found you pretty much have to or it falls apart. Here are some pics of the simple spine I made. It works great and I just lift it off to the side when I'm un-covering the boat. I'f anyone has come up with anything that works well for them, let's see it!ribs1.jpgribs2.jpgribs3.jpg

yea I have pretty much something like that under the mooring cover on the ski-boat. I like to think my fishing boat is more personal and I feel good about making things for it. Laserbrn, sometimes it's not the money and I never feel like I'm wasting my time when i'm playing with my toy's.

You can use long 1" PVC(it bends in nice arcs). Make a framework that can sit just inside the gunwales on the floor.

Here's a different variation (not my boat btw)

PVC here, too:

Made it nice and high so I can partly peel the cover and work under it when the sun's wicked hot.

Same basic idea though I'm using EMT conduit scraps that I get from work. Light yet more rigid than PVC and am only using 3/4" diameter pipe. Keeps the snow off also!

I use a 2X4 from the trailer winch to the engine to support the cover. I tie 1/8" nylon line side to side from the 2X4 to whatever cleats, bimini top supports etc to support the sides of the cover. There is one spot where the rain/snow will pool, so I use some front to back nylon line to supplement the side to side lines.

Hey bonz, got a pic?

Sorry no. It's all apart for now. Basically I have one run down the center from the bow to the stern with a couple tees just back of the steering console with a pcs of conduit from the center to the gunwales.
