Got timing all set , cables adjusted , running great . Put in water went to start sheared flywheel key . Had it tourqued properly 100 ft pounds . Extra compression and water back pressure must been to much . Had been off many times before, but still looked good.

Tapers perfectly dry & clean?
The flat side of the key parallel to the crank centerline NOT the taper?
(Look at the sheared key to tell)
What motor 100 Ft/Lbs?

Re: Sheared flywheel key

That key will not shear if the parts are good (undamaged tapers and keyways), AND they were perfectly clean and dry before installing and torqueing. The reason it sheared should be obvious, we just can't see it from here.

Re: Sheared flywheel key

Get a new key from BRP dealer.--------Not all keys are the same.-------Lap the tapers with some valve grinding compound to get a perfect fit.

Re: Sheared flywheel key

I will say I didn't lap them to perfectly match . Did clean and torque . I did not inspect key that close . Was in grove properly but who knows. New key and lap together ,toque properly and try again . Thanks for replies
