UPDATE #1
Many of you may remember my previous shed construction questions in other threads.

We are now getting into it, and I'll use this thread to show progress.

It will be 16x32 with a wood floor, built on piers.

Last weekend we graded the site.

dcp12950hx.jpg

This picture was just funny:
At the top of the site, we built a burm to deflect water coming down the hill, the skidloader when it climbed the hill would tip over backwards when it went to dump and just tore everything up. So my brother came up with this tractor, it had a longer wheel base and was able to dump it onto the burm, but had a REALLY hard time picking up the wet dirt from the pile, so we used the skid loader to load the Kubota.

Thursday we dig Holes, Saturday we pour concrete.

*********************************************************

My brother did all the driving on the skid loader, he has a bit more experience on them than me. I just drove it around a few minutes just to do it. I paid for it, gotta at least drive it.

And Bob.... Round these parts we pour our concrete, Did you guys use that fancy pre-hardened stuff? :)

Update #2
No pictures for today, nothign interesting.

Drilled the holes last night. rented a 12" auger, neighbor came up with his bobcat.

I had inspection scheduled for Today to measure the depth and give me go ahead to PLACE concrete.

My wife called this afternoon, said she saw the inspector pull up, walk towards the area and then go to get back in the car. She went out and got his attention. He was leaving! "I was told to come out and inspect and there's nothing here"
She tells him I dug the holes just last night, "oh, I didn't see that" so he goes over, see's that there are holes there and approves it.

He wasn't even told WHAT he was going to inspect, he was just given the address and told to go out.
I have a fealing my final inspection is going to be a breeze.

Concerete comes saturday, Pickup first of the Lumber after concrete is in place.

**************************************************

UPDATE #3

Todays Lesson: Concrete laboror's are worth every penny they make.

We PLACED the concrete in the holes for the piers, and while we were there, we took out a flower bed and paved over it. We now have a place to the side of the house to put bbq pit and trash cans.

6 sack mix with fiberglass.

Noel, tell us more about fiberglass in the concrete. I know you had an earlier post re your building, but tell me again, why did you need those deep concrete piers?

Piers have to go deep enough to be below any possible frost heave. Around these parts, Code is 30" deep.

The fiberglass in the concrete makes it so you don't need any rebar or wire when you pour. We put nothing in the slab, just poured it.

As for the piers, 3 pieces of rebar go through because of the weight of the thing.

UPDATE#4

RAIN HAS FINALLY STOPPED!

Today, Saturday:

First 1/2 of Floor Joists are in, and the posts are in.

The Posts are 6x6 treated notched with Strong-tie brackets and post bases anchored into the concrete. We didin't like the idea of just those little brackets holding things, so 2 8" Galvenized 1/2" Carriage bolts were put in at every post.

post8gu.jpg

Insulating the floor was finally decided to go with 1.5" Styrofoam... It has R value of 5.9 and then the air pocket between it and the floor. Any other insulation would have had moisture problems from under. We stapled in slats every 4' or so and cut it a tight fit and pushed it down between the joist. Works great.

I have 16 sheet of this stuff to cut into pieces, so we made a quick jig. I pull a sheet under the 2x4 rip fence, it has a board to stop at the end and each piece is the exact same width.

...And that's my ugly mug with the dust mask on, my shed, so I get the nasty job of cutting the foam. Looks like it snowed.

Good idea to insulate. Did you put any barrier on the ground? Such as a geotextile or plastic sheet? That also helps keep the moisture down. If you skirt the floor to the ground you will even be warmer... something like a mobile home skirting.

That skirting will really help you. Just make sure it is vented so there is air turn over. It's looking good.

UPDATE 5:

Last saturday I hired 2 carpenters to come get us back on shedule. Nothing but rain!

They finished putting down the subfloor and framed all 4 walls, and had them braced in only 6 hours.

Tonight we set the trusses and got 4 perlins between each one to keep it solid.

Tomorrow morning my brother and my nephew will finish the perlins and put on roof sheething. Then My nephew will roof it.

We ran a walkway down the middle of the building to help get everything set.

Hiring guys that know what they are doing was worth every penny. Paid em $25 cash for 6 hours each and they probaly got me a WEEK ahead of where I would have been. (and not a single wasted board)
