Shift Cable Adjustment Issue

I've watched the video on youtube by aChris, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s_tgevX2aI I've followed these adjustments to the T. I did this once before with old cables, and it still didn't work, so I went and got brand new cables thinking the old ones were stretched, and I'm still getting the same result. After doing the measurement from Chris' video, when I shift in forward, the prop locks one direction, and spins the other. When I shift in reverse, the prop doesn't lock at all, it only clicks when spinning the direction it's supposed to lock. I adjusted the slot on the lower shift cable to the top from the bottom, and it still doesn't lock in reverse. I'm at my wits end on what to do. I thought the new cables would solve the problem. Any help is much appreciated.

Have you tried following the service manual? Start on page 2A-18 and follow it step by step, and I will bet you it works.

Manual #6

With the lower shift cable off the shift plate, can you pull the cable all the way out and have it lock in reverse? Did you check the 9/16" thing I did right at the beginning of the video? How much movement do you have?

Don, the manual worked. :D Chris, I had the same exact measurements you had. In the manual, I just kept tweaking it the way the manual stated and it finally worked. Thanks a million guys.

Re: Shift Cable Adjustment Issue

was your problem ultimately just an adjustment issue?
