Trying to push cable for Alpha I into new shift bellows; not an easy task indeed. There must be some tricks out there from the experts.....should I have "stretched" the belows prior to installing it?

Any useful techniques will be greatly appreciated.

Right now, I am just using 2-4-c grease. I may try that, but I am in the get away from it for awhile and come back later mode......thanks for the advice.

Few days ago I just used small amount of dish-washing liquid on the end of the shift cable and it pushed right through the shift cable bellows.

I feel your pain.......:):)
Cut the end off of a large caulking tube near the tube itself......
Then cut the very tip off.....
Slice through it lengthwise on one side.....
Make two small cuts for expansion at the tip......
It will be self evident how it works when you see it.....;):)

Re: shift cable/bellows tricks?

That is an excellent "tip" (pun intended).

What I wound up doing was cutting the threaded piece that goes on the shift bracket end of the cable from the old cable assembly (about 1.5") and then using that as a guide used brute force to get the cable into that "virgin" bellows.......

This is NOT a fun job......
