A 1998 130hp Johnson. Replaced the shift cable. The cable binds. Every thing works smooth until the cable ends are hooked up. The only thing I see as a problem is that the cable connection ends do not lay flat at the connection points. The ends are off about 45 degrees. I cannot think of a way around it.

It has to be in a bind somewhere. If the ends lay at a 45 you have something hooked up wrong. Maybe in the control box or possibly it is too long and you had to make a loop or two somewhere.

That makes sense. Same length as the one replaced, bends same as old, but the loop at the engine has always been quite wide quite wide. It might well be that the cable I bought is more sensitive to bends.
