Shift cable direction question?

1987 Alpha 1. At the shift plate located on the side of exhaust manifold I forgot to jot down how the levers moved the shift cable which goes into the bell housing. When Shifting into forward, does the cable that goes into the bell housing move forward, or backward(toward the bell housing or back of the boat. Or Does it push or pull the shift slide.

When Shifting into forward, does the cable that goes into the bell housing move forward, or backward(toward the bell housing or back of the boat.

With the lower shift cable disconnected, (the one going to the outdrive), you will push on the cable to go into forward. As you push on the cable, have someone turn the prop counterclockwise - it should lock in place. The unit is now in forward gear.

Foreward = OUT
Reverse = IN....:)

I'm not sure if that confirms or contradicts what I wrote? :confused:

Here's a picture to illustrate the direction. A "normal" direction for your drive would be right hand, or RH:

I thought he meant at the bell housing end.....
Same result, option 'A'.....:)
