Shift cable housing issue

Hi all, This weekend, after boating for awhile, my shift cable housing completely backed off from the threaded tube See pic.

The cable and housing all look fine. I’m guessing the nut wasn’t tightened down at some point, and the housing slowly backed its way off.

I removed the outdrive, got the housing screwed back onto the tube, but not sure how to go about adjusting the cable properly. This is on a Mercruiser 6.2/Bravo 1

That should screw into the housing till it bottoms out, then tighten the nut. If it's shifting fine after that it might be ok.

Ok, That’s exactly how I reinstalled it, so I’ll plan to go ahead and test it next. Appreciate the help!
