shift cable install???????

1985 chaparral villian II 350 mercruiser, alpha 1<br />i am a good small engine mec.no boat knowlege!!<br />pulled out drive off,took old cable off,can't get new cable threded into housing.insert cable through housing into boat can't get started.maby cross threded.could really use any input.<br /> thanks doug<br /> this sight has been really helpfull.

Try running a 1/4-18 pipe tap up the hole to straighten/clean up threads.

I agree try the tap take your time. You might want to try a nut on the cable side just to make sure it that is not cross threaded also alittle oil on the thread Also if you can have somone on the inside holding the cable so it does not bind
