shift cable length

i have a 83 galaxy runabout i/o, im looking for the correct length before i remove the original cable. i found the shift slide here on this site. but i just need that last bit of info. your help is greatly appriciated.

Welcome aboard...

I believe you measure from helm control to motor and add 2 feet..Others will chime in that are much smarter than I am..Thank God..lol

On my own '84 Galaxy the cable length was printed on the cables themselves. The printing was repeated every few feet. For reference my 17BR had cables of 14 feet. Hope this helps.
