Shift cable replacement kit

Have 1981 i/o 470 with 1 outdrive<br />Kits on internet to convert to new style shift cable require a 1/4-18 tap. What can this be for? Hole that old shift cable came out in bell is 1/2".<br />Their answer was 1/4 NPT is as big as 1/2 straight. <br />Best source for kit??<br />Thanks

Another never mind. My research says that it takes a 7/16 hole to tap a 1/4 x 18 NPT thread.<br />Glad I didn't waste anyone's time.
