shift cable rubber boot

I have a 1997 chaparral mcm 4.3 l lx gen +
alpha one #oko69335
The rubber boot around the shift cable going from lower unit is torn can I seal the hole going into the transom, or do I need to replace the boot how hard is to pull lower unit to get at the cable to replace the boot.

It can be done without pulling your drive.But if you gotta work there maybe you should change the shift cable.It's 10 years old. Jerry

Uhmmm.... okay i'll bite....
How exactly do you replace the boot without pulling the drive? I mean, because I'm just asking.... if you happen to know a better way i'm all ears....
