I replaced the frozen shift cable on my VP sx drive. It shifted flawlessly all day yesterday. When we anchored in shallow water, I forgot to raise the drive up. A boat came tearing through in a no wake zone and sent a swell to my anchored boat causing the drive to impact the bottom several times before I was able to raise the trim. After this happened. My drive wouldn't shift properly. Pulled the cover and saw the linkage wasn't moving properly. I figured out that the cable sleeve popped out of the crow foot bolted to the drive that keeps the cable jacket in place. I loosened the bolt, repositioned the crow foot back into the groove on the cable jacket and tightened it back down. But the cable wiggles around with a lot of side play and doesn't feel right. I don't remember the previous cable feeling like this. Did the impact damage the cable jacket? I've never had the cable pop out of the crow foot before. And yes, I'm absolutely certain the crows foot was in the cable jacket groove when I replaced the cable. Here's a picture of it after bolting it back down. Maybe I just didn't have the bolt tightened down enough? I'm paranoid I'm going to strip out the soft aluminum if I use my gorilla arm force to tighten it.
