shift cable tool size

does anyone know what size the socket is for a shift cable tool on an alpha one is

Ayuh,.... 9/16" deepwell,.... Ya don't need a Special 1, with the New cables,...

the kit that i am buying has the cable with the brass bushing from what i understand that is still the old cable is that correct

what bondo meant to say is that the newer merc cable are made so the plastic guide tube screws off and you use a regular socket
then screw it back it.If your not using oem cable , leave the plastic tube alone and use a very deep 9/16 thinwall socket or weld a donor socket to one to make a deep socket.
