I've just installed a new lower shift cable. The kit included a new plastic cable wrap. Should I install the new wrap or can I go without it? How close to the transome should it be installed? Thanks, Jerry

Re: Shift cable wrap

Ayuh,..... It's Got to be there......

The Manual doesn't say, but it appears to be about 1/2" short of the inner transom plate.......

Re: Shift cable wrap

service manual #2 says, "Place protective wrapping on shift cable in area where cable extends thru transom."
i'd speculate that since it's an outer cable protecting sleeve, right at the transom shield that it is there to protect against vibration of the plastic outer cable on metal parts against wear......
btw, it ain't to easy to get that sleeve on that close to the transom shield, least not on my L6, i probably didn't get mine close enough, but it's there and i tried...... just don't think i won... myself i should probably try again..... weather i will? ;)
