With my out drive down and straight shifting works fine but when i turn the wheel or raise the out drive it seems to be impossible to find neutral and shifting is noisey in any position. This is with the boat out of the water. What gives?

"Doctor....my arm hurts when I do this (raised up over my head)" Dr says... "Then dont do it!" Basically the same answer here. Not really necessary to shift gears while on muffs in any other position than trimmed level and straight.... and then just only to test the shifter if you are so inclined to think you need to test it out of water (I do all my shifter tests out of water statically, in other words with the engine not running.
If it shifts fine in the water (trimmed or turned as needed), then you are ok.
Also, depending on how much you are trimming the outdrive up or turning the wheel, the noise could be from your u-joints.

LOL ok dont do it. Simple enough. This is my first boat and when I got it the out drive was all apart so when I got every thing together and the out drive back on the boat I wanted to test it before I put it in the water. Thats why I did what I did. The noise is the gears. Might be because the idle is to high. Still looking into this.

Thanks
