Hi there. Just towed my 74 Mercruiser 140 - 100 miles from the mechanics to the lake.
Had new bellows, shift cable and gimble bearing installed.

The adjustment on the shift interrupt is no good.
In and out of forward is fine. It stalls the engine momentarily just as I take it out of forward.

Reverse is no good. As I put it into reverse it activates the interrupt switch and keeps it activated, stopping the engine. So I have no reverse.

I left my manual at home and was hoping someone could give me some simple instructions for the adjustment. I'd play with it but don't want to mess up the forward shifting.

If it's not simple, I'll just wait until next weekend when I bring out my manual.

Thanks
Oops, forgot to mention that I'm on dialup out here, so searching and downloading manuals is not practical.

Hang in there, I will seperate the adjusting information out of the manual to make it a very small download. Can you use Adobe .pdf Acrobat files?

Don, thank you very, very much.
Yes, I do have acrobat so those files will really help me out.

The mechanic I took it to doesn't have a test tank.
Do you think that could be the problem?
He did show me that it worked ok when I picked it up, but it was on muffs.

thanks again

Sounds like it's just a little out of adjustment. Pushing too far into reverse is what is activating the shift interrupt system.

Don, I thought I'd provide an update.
I started to follow the instructions you gave me but a thunderstorm brewed up with a tornado warning on the side.
I thought it prudent to get off the boat.

I ended up bringing the boat back to the mechanic this morning.
I figured I just gave him $1100.00 to fix it. I might as well get it done right.
thanks again
