Shift interrupter 350 engine

Here is my pic. I have that purple wire with a yellow stripe coming out of the cluster to the right of the distributor. Also a purple with yellow stripe coming off the positive post of the coil, assuming the loose purple yellow wire goes to the brown wire connection on the shift interrupter switch in the top left hand corner. If not where does it go and do I do any kind of ground connection and if so from where to where? Thank you muchly for any input,..

that shift interrupter works by grounding the neg. side of the coil NEVER the positive side. The purple/yellow wire most likely ran from the + side of the coil to the outer small post of the starter solenoid to supply full power diring cranking only.
the red arrow should be the ground screw and the yellow arrow shoud be the isolated screw that goes to the neg side of the coil.

So basically the shift interupter is wired just hook the purple yellow to the starter solenoid but not sure what you mean by outer post. Is that the hot side before the solenoid closes?

No, the post marked 'I'.

Starter should have 2 small posts, one for the starter wire (usually yellow/red), and one for an ignition bypass. So full 12 is feed to the coil during cranking.

I just checked my purple with yellow stripe and have 4 volts coming off it with the key on and also 4 volts with the starter engaged. So if I wire it to the outside post of the starter I have 4 volts going to the starter with just the key on. And still 4 volts when I actually engage the starter. Not sure 4 volts should be going to the starter with the key on. Is the 4 volts not a problem with the key on??

without knowing how you are using the meter to measure voltage , I cant answer. With the key off or on, the 2 small lugs on the starters solenoid should have 0 voltage.If voltage is present the solenoid is bad.
power applied to the inner most stud will cause the starter motor to spin.when the solenoid engages and the outermost small stud should have 12v or the battery voltage supplied to the coil to aid in starting. Once the motor starts and the solenoid releases, a lower voltage is applied to the coil thru the use of a "resistance wire" to lower the voltage.
