Not sure about the 88 system but the newer models only killed half of the cylinders. And they did it with a timer, so if you jumped the switch (closed the circuit) and left the jumper in place the engine should "stumble" for a few seconds then return to normal. It will not stumble again until you break and re make the jumper wire.

Re: shift interrupter switch

I have been boating for 30 years the boat I am working on is my sons bayliner I think the shift switch caused the lower shift cable to brake. after I replaced it I found that the engine does not stumble when shifting. I don't think it's the switch because when I jump it the engine still runs fine. I think it maybe a ground somewhere any ides?

Re: shift interrupter switch

If its a Cobra drive there should be a ESA (Electronic Shift Assist) module thats triggered by the switch your jumping. I think Doug Russell (SP) covers this on his web site. You may want to check there or do a search here using Doug Russell and ESA

Not that I'm aware of, but the total of my experience with the OMC Cobra packages comes from maintaining and up keeping a 92 3 liter HO set up. However I have herd a bad tach. can cause ignition system problems.
