I haven't got to mess with the boat yet since it was out Sat, but I noticed when watching for the RPM drop shifting out of gear, that it dropped when going from R to N, but actually spiked a little when going from F to N (the hard one, as mine's currently set up). I saw it twice. Idle is prob about 500rpm in gear.

That sounds like maybe the throw adjustment of the remote cable to me (am I making that up?), that can be done with the drive on? Or would it maybe be the whole lower cable adjustment out of whack? I tried to do the adjustment, with the special tools (except shift rod height one), when I replaced the lower cable (2019), but it was still hard to get out of Fwd when I was done.

I was going to have somebody watch the notched lever deal while I shift out of gear on the water, but don't know when that'll be. Tomorrow's gonna be a perfect day - calm wind, low humidity... Prob better go to work though.

Maybe but maybe not. In Fwd there is more load on the prop because the way the blades are shaped

Also, even though its a pain, adjusting a Cobra should always start with the drive off and measuring shift rod height. If that's off, then the rest of the adjustments can't be right. The goal is always equal travel on both sides of neutral.

Next time the drive's off I intend to look at that closer (rod height). I had wanted to at least see while sliding it back on if the lever was lined up with the notch in the (chicken head, lol), but I missed that somehow while trying to get it back on right.

I've been turning it off as much as possible lately, before shifting back to N. That's fine out on the lake, but I'm not skilled enough yet to be able to do that at the dock or recovering to the trailer, where I usually need to go back to N, and often R before getting stopped properly. Maybe it's more that it's just not possible to coast in to those places much. There's usually a cross current where I launch and recover. All that's beside the point, though.

It's a good thing I've got nothing else to do besides take the drive off and on and mess with the boat. Bwahahahaha. 😁
