I recently pulled my alpa 1 stern drive for a Mercruiser V8 5.7 260HP I/O to change ex. bellows. The screw that goes thru the shift lever at the top is damaged where the flat tip screwdriver inserts. Already tried an impact driver with no luck. Any suggestions? I'm willing to replace any parts necessary if I can cut something to get it out. s/n on outdrive is 0C505901.

Re: shift lever screw

This should be in the outdrive forum, but just drill the lever and break it off you can get a arm most anywhere, Mercury, Here on Iboats, NAPA, Primeline

Re: shift lever screw

Thanks for the advice Laddies. Should I drill the screw going through the arm or the actual arm?

Re: shift lever screw

Thanks for the help Laddies. I drilled the arm off with no problem. I'm going to purchase a new shift lever kit and install. Now I have the pleasure of trying to get the bell housing end of the exhaust bellows on. Wish me luck :)

Re: shift lever screw

Get some bellows adhesive and glue it in place once it's dry tighten the clamp, piece of cake
