shift lever sparking

I had posted a question earlier today and Joe Reeves got me pointed in the right direction. Found that I could get the starter to engage if I moved the shifter to just the right spot. 1/4" in either direction and it would fire. So while turning the key and watching the motor, I noticed a spark jumping from the shift lever to the lower cowling! Gas fumes and all, this is a big concern.

I assume I've got a faulty ground somewhere but wanted a second opinion. I've had this 1980 25hp Evinrude for about 8 months now and the more I learn, the more I realize what terrible shape this thing was in. After gleening alot of knowledge from the experts on this site, I've got the carbs adjusted, guts decarbed, water pump replaced and pissing again. That fact the it was still running when I got it is a testament to how tough this motor is. Now that she's running so good I'd hate to blow her up (and myself).

Thanks for all the help.
