I am having some issues adjusting my shifter linkage the boat will not go in all 3 gears correctly when I was at home I had the forward the neutral and reverse .as soon as I get it in the water it goes in forward and neutral but no reverse It rems up load and never shifts only when I shift the shifter on the motor by hand does it lock in reverse I have tried doing this at home by hand when it is not in the water and it works but some how it is not correct when i take it for a spin.any help on how to adjust correctly would be apreciated

Well, it's either control box, cable, or at the motor...

interesting it shifts on land but not in the water...

put the boat in the water tied to the dock and have a friend GENTLY place the motor in reverse while you look at the linkage under the cowl....you'll be able to see if the cable is moving, properly adjusted, or if it's another problem there.

if the cable does not move, look to cable itself or control box.

I have the same motor!!!

the shifter is moving it just wont keep its shift its as if it coming out of adjustment after I adjust it or maybe I did not tighten it to the corect measurement how do you set the adjustments and measure the distance on the turns

This is tough without seeing it...but if the cable moves the engine into reverse...you should see the linkage move under the cowl.....if the linkage moves back..and the cable moves back, that would seem to be a control box issue.

if the cable does NOT move, then the linkage from the cable to the lower unit must be inspected....something's moving.

remember not to shift into reverse when the motor is not running..i've heard that's not good for your motor!!

what happens when you put it reverse not running, since I did this a few times adjusting my shifting the mechanical neutral....I am curious now
