Shift Linkage Question

Great site. I've learned alot alot of information just by browsing these forums.
Anyways I have a 1973 Evinrude 85hp that is new to me. Replaced water pump and all works great. My question is do I need to go back and measure shift rod height. Motor shifts fine on muffs and on the lake. Did I just get lucky or am I putting extra stress on my gearcase. Hate to burn something up because of ignorance. Thx in advance

Welcome aboard.
If you didn't mess with it while changing out the pump you should be fine.
Especially since it's shifting well.

If the adapter at the top of the shift rod was not turned you are good to go.
