i have a 1990 120 hp ldrive, just pretty much overhauled the motor, started it in the driveway last weeken and wouldnt go in revers, i could shift it into reverse by hand at the gear box, i pulled the cable to, past the dimple, and it shifetd fine both gears, got it on the lake this morning backed right off the trailer, no forward gear. is there an adjustmant that im missing? that essentially shortens the cable? seems i have too much cable?

Re: shift linkage

Usually there is a thread on the plastic bobin that the cable passes through when it enters the control housing on the box ..Thats adjustable and the cable within the motor is in a clamp so you can release and move the outer back and forth...Not forgeting of course the shift adjuster ....check for play had one that a circlip had jumped off ...
