when in neutral, the prop should beable to be turn by hand freely right? when in forward ar reverse, the prop shouldn't beable to spin freely because it is engaged right? if this is the case, then is this normal that somtimes when i shift into F or R the lever doesn't seat fully in the rests, if i turn the prop a bit then it pops into place.

Hi Headrick
Yep, sounds healthy. It requires a partial revelution for the cogs on the shift dog to engage the gear unless they happen to be lined up to start with. This is normal.

Most manuals also say not to shift the motor while it isn't running, as you can jam the shift clutch into the gears...
- Scott
