The instructions say shifter needs to be in FWD (this is a 60-degree V4) when removing the gearcase, but when I try to push the unit back into the midsection, the rod always encounters some resistance up top which pushes it down into Neutral. I can't get the upper linkage to engage when I move the horizontal rod back and forth, no matter what position the remote control's gear position. Any ideas?
