shift rod connection?

I have a 94 60 hp evinrude oil injected o/b and <br />I am having trouble with re-connecting the shift rod. It is the one with the retaining pin.the manual doesnt tell you what position it has to be in to lock in<br />regards Laz

May be easier if the hitch pin and pivot bolt is removed from the linkage clevis to shift arm.Once shift rod coupler is connected ,place the shift arm and control lever in the neutral position.The shift arm pivot bolt hole should line up exactly with the shift linkage clevis hole.
